Five 0f 34 Liquor Licensees Sold Alcohol to a Minor During Compliance Checks in Grays Harbor
and Thurston Counties

Liquor Control Board enforcement officers conducted 34 compliance checks at Grays Harbor County establishments and one at a Thurston County casino on Dec. 13. Minors were allowed to purchase alcohol at five locations.  

During the compliance checks, an 18, 19 or 20 year old enters a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store and attempt to buy alcohol. The following businesses sold alcohol to an underage person during the compliance checks:

  • Monte Square Enterprise, 100 Brumfield Ave. W., Montesano

  • Park’s Mini Mart, 2112 Sumner Ave., Aberdeen

  • Satsop Grocery, 840 Monte-Elma Road, Satsop

  • Savory Faire, 135 S. Main St., Montesano

  • Young’s Quick Stop, 605 W. Market St., Aberdeen

The Board commends the following businesses for passing the Dec. 13 compliance checks:

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses. 

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a seven-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
