Seattle – When
Liquor Control Board enforcement officers conducted 10 compliance
checks in Seattle on Dec. 17 and Dec. 20, six of the businesses
checked sold alcohol to a minor.
During the compliance checks, an 18- 19- or 20-year-old enters a
restaurant, tavern, or grocery store and attempts to buy alcohol. Of
the 10 Seattle businesses checked on Dec. 17 and Dec. 20, the
following six sold alcohol to the minor.

- Richlen’s Mini Mart 2220 E.

The Board commends the following four businesses for passing the
December compliance checks:
- John’s Wok on Western 1100
Western Ave.
- Market Cellar Winery 1432
Western Ave.
- Viet-Wah Super Market 1032
Jackson St. S.
- Village Mart 2811 E. Madison
St.
Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.
Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN)
or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board, based on past
offenses.
The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a
five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day
suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day
suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a
license cancellation.
