Three of 16 Clark County liquor licensees sell alcohol to a minor during checks by liquor enforcement officers

CLARK COUNTY
– Three of 16 liquor licensees in Camas and Washougal sold liquor to an underage operative posing as a customer on Jan. 11 during liquor law compliance checks conducted by Washington State Liquor Control Board enforcement officers.  

During compliance checks, an 18-, 19- or 20-year old person employed by the state Liquor Control Board enters a restaurant, tavern, or grocery store to attempt to buy alcohol. The following businesses sold alcohol to the minor operative during the Jan. 11 checks in Camas and Washougal:

  • Chinese Garden Restaurant, 3218 N.E. 2nd Ave., Camas

  • Heller’s E Street Landing, 1826 E St., Washougal

  • Wild Willie’s, 1641 E. St., Washougal

The Board commends the following 13 businesses for refusing to sell alcohol to a minor during the Jan. 11 compliance checks:

  • 7 Market, 3514 S.E. 3rd Ave., Camas

  • ARCO AM/PM Mini Market, 212 15th St., Washougal

  • Camas Thriftway, 3300 N.E. 3rd Ave., Camas

  • Gringo’s Restaurant,  419 E. St., Washougal

  • Jett Burger Café, 3531 S.E. 2nd Ave., Camas

  • Longs Drug Store, 3307 Evergreen Blvd., Washougal

  • Los Dos Compadres, 701 E St., Washougal

  • Los Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant, 1736 B St., Washougal

  • Pizza Palace,  3136 N.E. 3rd Ave., Camas

  • Quick Shop Minit Mart,  3191 D St., Washougal

  • Quick Stop Mart, 207 N.E. 3rd Ave., Camas

  • Riverside Bowl, 3010 N.E. 3rd Ave., Camas

  • Safeway Store, 3307 Evergreen Blvd, Washougal

Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor receive a criminal citation.  Liquor licensees receive either an administrative violation notice (AVN) or a written warning from the Liquor Control Board based on past offenses. 

The first time AVN penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is a five-day suspension or a $500 fine, a second offense is a 7-day suspension with no monetary option, a third offense is a 30-day suspension with no monetary option, and a fourth offense is a license cancellation.
