February 22, 2005
(Olympia, WA) – Governor
Christine Gregoire has announced the re-appointment of Merritt D. Long
as Chairman of the Washington State Liquor Control Board (LCB)
effective Feb. 14, 2005. Merritt has served as chairman of the LCB
since August 2001.
He formerly served
as the director of the Washington State Lottery and the Washington
State Human Rights Commission. Merritt also is a Trustee of The
Evergreen State College and on the board of directors of Olympia’s
Thurston First Bank.
"I want to thank
Governor Gregoire for the trust and confidence she has demonstrated by
re-appointing me to the Liquor Control Board. This is not so much an
endorsement of me as it is an endorsement of the excellent work that
has been under way throughout the agency."
"I also would like
to thank each and every employee of the Liquor Control Board - from
Seattle to Colville - for their dedication and hard work in moving the
agency forward. I am optimistic the LCB will continue the momentum we
have achieved as we face new challenges and opportunities."
