SPOKANE ―A Gonzaga University
student was cited by the Washington State Liquor Control Board Monday,
March 1, for procuring and selling counterfeit California driver’s
licenses to persons under the age of 21. She has been charged with a
gross misdemeanor.
Liquor enforcement officers, who conducted the
investigation in cooperation with Gonzaga University Security,
confiscated about a dozen phony IDs.
Gonzaga students who possess the fake IDs will
be granted amnesty from criminal prosecution for the crime, if they
turn the counterfeit documents in to Gonzaga Security or the Liquor
Control Board within the next two weeks, said Justin Nordhorn, LCB
Enforcement and Education Division regional manager.
Nordhorn said counterfeit documents are
higher quality now than they have been in the past, but methods for
identifying fakes are also becoming more sophisticated and small
discrepancies are easily spotted by experienced checkers.
