OLYMPIA – Following a
review before a third-party Administrative Law Judge, the Washington
State Liquor Control Board has sustained its April 13, 2005 decision
to deny a liquor license renewal for the Royal India Restaurant, 19712
Old Highway 99 SW in Rochester.
The Royal India appealed the Board’s decision,
which was based, in part, on evidence the restaurant had violated
state liquor statutes by over-serving customers and selling alcohol to
persons under the age of 21.
The denial of the restaurant’s liquor license
renewal also was issued on the basis of considerable objections to the
renewal by citizens in the community, local government and Thurston
County officials, including the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
The Administrative Law Judge found
“the Board established by substantial evidence that the Royal India
violated the statutes and rules of the Board governing liquor license
holders. The number and nature of calls for service to the Thurston
County Sheriff’s Office was substantial, especially in relation to
other establishments of similar business.”
