Revenue is distributed to the county and to each city in the county on the basis of population. Revenue is generated through state taxes on spirits, beer and wine, and from lottery sales, tobacco seizures and penalties. Cities and counties throughout the state received about $52.6 million of the $263 million in revenue collected by the agency in FY 2005.

The mission of the Liquor Control Board is to serve the public by preventing the misuse of alcohol and tobacco through controlled distribution, enforcement and education; and provide excellent customer service by operating efficient, convenient, and profitable retail stores.
