OLYMPIA – The Washington State Liquor Control Board appointed Anthony Masias to the new
position of Alcohol Awareness Manager in the Policy, Legislative and Media Relations Division. Masias served as a liquor
enforcement officer for the past seven and a half years for the agency.
Masias will be responsible for conducting a statewide alcohol awareness effort aimed at middle and high school students
and will work collaboratively with members of the state prevention and enforcement communities to identify opportunities,
create campaigns and develop funding proposals.
As an enforcement officer, Masias gained extensive field experience working on alcohol awareness and education issues.
He helped secure, implement and sustain several grants involving alcohol awareness in the Bellingham area. He holds a bachelor’s
degree in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
As a member of Western Washington University’s Campus Community Coalition, which has successfully addressed underage drinking,
binge drinking and related issues on a community-wide basis, Tony has given numerous presentations to students, staff, faculty
and community members and has developed educational strategies to support prevention efforts with middle and high school students.
“Tony has earned the respect of the Bellingham community for his extraordinary efforts in alcohol awareness. I am confident
he’ll bring the same level of capability to his new role as statewide alcohol awareness manager,” said Bob Burdick, Liquor Control
Board Communications Director.
