(Olympia) – The Washington State Liquor Control Board has issued a
10-day license suspension to Sunset Junction, 1801 West Sunset Avenue in Spokane. The suspension is
effective from 10 a.m. August 14 to 10 a.m. August 24, 2006.
In December 2005 and January 2006, the licensee received three administrative violation
notices (AVNs) for prohibited conduct on the licensed premises. The AVNs were issued after
Liquor Control Board Enforcement Officers conducted follow-up investigations in response to
complaints about disorderly conduct and intoxication.
Initially, the Liquor Control Board proposed the business be assessed either a 20-day license
suspension or an $8,000.00 fine. The 10-day liquor license suspension is the result of a compromise
agreement in which the licensee stipulated to all three violation charges. The four original Administrative
charges that resulted in the three violation notices were:
- Licensee engaged in disorderly conduct (assaulting a patron)
- Licensee intoxicated on the licensed premises
- Licensee engaged in behavior that presented a threat to public safety (assaulting a patron)
- Licensees’ employee engaged in disorderly conduct (assaulting a police Co-op Volunteer)
Sunset Junction is licensed as a spirits, beer and wine restaurant and lounge, which permits the
service of liquor by the drink. While the suspension is in effect, Sunset Junction may not sell, serve,
or allow consumption of alcohol on the premises, but it may remain open for food service.
