February 1, 2000 12 LIQUOR LICENSEES SELL ALCOHOL TO MINORS Snohomish County-
Liquor Control Board enforcement agents visited 26 liquor licensed businesses in Snohomish
and Island Counties over a three day period, January 26, 27, and 28. The following 12
licensees sold alcohol to a minor:
Four of the above five stores
asked for age identification, at which point the 19 year old produced her own ID, and the
clerk still proceeded with the sale.
Only one of the above four stores asked the 19
year old male for ID. The minor produced his own ID and the clerk still proceeded with the
sale.
None of the above licensees asked to see the 18 year olds ID. All of these liquor licensees will be receiving administrative violation notices with a standard first offence penalty of $500 or a five day license suspension. The employees who sold alcohol to the minors received a criminal citation and will have to appear before their district court. The local Liquor Control Board enforcement office offers free training to licensees and their employees on checking identification. The classes are the first Wednesday of each month at 9:30am and the third Wednesday of each month at 1pm. Citizens who suspect a liquor licensed
business of selling liquor or tobacco to underage persons, may call the local enforcement
office with information at
