TWO LIQUOR LICENSEES SELL ALCOHOL TO MINORS

Jefferson County- Liquor Control Board enforcement agents conducted 20 liquor compliance checks on March 31, with cooperation from Jefferson County sheriff’s office and the Port Townsend police department.

During compliance checks, an 18 or 19 year old, will enter either a restaurant or a grocery store to attempt to buy alcoholic beverages. Of the 20 compliance checks, two businesses sold to a minor:

  • Nordland General Store; 7180 Flagler Road, Nordland
  • Seabreeze Grocery; 1408 Sims Way, Port Townsend

This is the first violation for Nordland General Store and the third violation in the past two years for Seabreeze Grocery. Seabreeze Grocery’s two previous violations for sale of alcohol to a minor took place on the following dates:

  • June 5, 1998- penalty: $500
  • November 13, 1998-penalty: served a 7 day suspension

The clerks who sold alcohol to the minor received a criminal citation. The liquor licensees will receive an administrative violation from the Liquor Control Board with a proposed first time penalty of a five day suspension or a $500 monetary option.
